Abstract

The dance work entitled Codyani Samasta is a final project in the form of performing arts including elements of theme, plot, dialogue, characterizations, and others. This dance work is inspired by the phenomenon of the courage, determination, and self-sacrifice of a Joko Bereg in folklore in Surabaya. "Codyani Samasta" comes from two words, namely "Codyani" in Kawi language means to agree to a request, and "Samasta" means to be united. When combined the words "Codyani Samasta" have the meaning of agreeing to a request to be united in meaning as a story of a journey in life that has not been revealed in East Java society. This work uses several choreographic techniques related to the elements of space, energy, time and materials. By redeveloping it based on the movement motif of Remo Dance and pencak silat in order to achieve the desired character. The clothes used are more populist when they were still the Duchy of Suroboyo. With the obstacles or obstacles experienced by the creator during the creation process, in the end, Codyani Samasta's dance work can be completed on time.
